- The DSP used in the Parsec 44 is the TMS320C40. Here are its specs.
-
- NB : I saw nothing about an eventual 56001 binary compatability, but is it
- REALLY a problem ? This chip seems to be more powerful, and CLOE Raytrace and
- Digital Tracker are already under development to use the PARSEC44
- capabiliies...
-
-
- The TMS320C4x generation of floating-point digital signal processors is ideal
- for today's growing
- computation-intensive parallel-processing applications. With up to six on-chip
- communication ports and support
- for shared global memory on two external busses, designers can have direct
- processor-to-processor
- communication for unprecedented computation power and design flexibility.
-
- The newest member of the 'C4x generation, the TMS320C44, is a lower cost
- parallel processing DSP. The 'C44 is
- completely compatible with the TMS320C40, has an address reach of 32 Mwords and
- features a low power mode that
- dramatically cuts power consumption. The lower cost, surface mount 'C44 device
- will enable high volume
- parallel processing applications that are more cost and power sensitive.
-
-
-
- 'C4x Key specifications:
-
- Performance up to 60 MFLOPS
- Increased computational power
- Increased communications power
- Multi-processing capability
- Scalability
- Fault tolerance
-
- 'C4x Key applications:
-
- High-speed communications
- Virtual reality, simulators
- Radar/sonar/image processing
- 3-D graphics
- Robotics/numeric control
- Speech recognition
- Telecom infrastructure

- Moreover, a french guy named Rodolphe Czuba (CENTaur) is preparing a
- brand new Falcon clone type, named CENT30, CENT40 and CENT60. These ones are
- detinated to replace the official Atari and C-Lab Falcons on the market, and in
- our hearts... :) He told me that it will be possible to connect Parsec boards
- on the CENT?0, which will sure be VERY speedy... The first computer to come out
- will be the CENT30. It will have a 32 bits bus, at 20 Mhz, a ISA connector for
- PC graphic boards, a 60 Mhz CPU, and (I think) a 40 Mhz 56001 DSP. This is what
- I can remind at the moment, but perhaps I forgot something ? He will buy your
- old Falcon if you buy a CENT30, which could be quite a good alternative... He
- said me there will be a 100% assembly OS, and very cool system functions. This
- seems to be quite difficult to do, but he seems to be sure of himself, so... NB
- : the OS will be compatable with proper Falcon applications. It will be
- possible to connect a ISA graphic board AND/OR a Falcon board, including a
- VIDEL, etc... What do you think about this one ? :)
